Ken ran us down to the Holiday Inn at Stansted last night. It was really cold and frosty. Things started well when the receptionist gave us our room card. When we got there, someone else was already in the room. Their name was Dickson!
We had dinner in the bar and a couple of drinks, before setting four different alarms for 6.15.
Checked in at Stansted and discovered that no veggie meal had been ordered for us, so we bought food in the terminal. It was a very cold morning with frost on the runway. We took a picture of the runway and our plane.
Flight to New York was uneventful, but when we got there it was snowing and somewhat turbulent. We landed a little late, with a quite tight connection. Then we hit the passport queue. It took us one hour to get to the front, with ten minutes to go to make our connection. Blood pressure was rising!! We reclaimed our bags, went through the most cursory of security checks before checking in the bags again one minute later. We hurtled through to our gate to discover our flight was delayed by ten minutes. One hour later and we were still waiting to board. J went to a deli to buy a sandwich. There was every type of meat but no veggie option. However you could add extra cheese, so she asked for a sandwich without the meat but with the cheese. It wasn’t possible!!
Eventually we boarded and then sat on the runway for a further 90 minutes, as they had to de-ice the plane. It was obviously very cold in NY as when Kevin ordered a beer on the plane, it was more like a Slush Puppy. Apart from that light to Miami was uneventful until the pilot had to abort the landing when just about to touch down as a rogue plane had strayed on to the runway. Quite unnerving.
Currently sat waiting for our plane with a beer. It is 10.20 pm here but 3.20 am on Friday at home and we are beginning to feel like zombies.
